the country in new jersey where voters head to the polls, governor chris christie will win reelection. the latest quinnipiac poll has him up over two to one over barba barbara buono. christie and his supporters hope to show the republican party how to win an election. we caught up with governor cristy on the campaign trail over the weekend and asked him what will likely be his victory speech on tuesday. >> sounds like you're planning for a message beyond new jersey. is that a fair assessment? >> i'm not planning for it. i think it's inevitable. people look at elections and they try to discern about what they mean at that moment and what they mean for the future. i think that what people will see is so unusual for what our party has created in the last couple of years that invariably people will draw from us. >> is the margin necessary to lay a future for your career? >> i don't think so. barack obama won the state by 17 points a year ago. the fact that you're talking to a republican about margin rather than can you win or. >> really good thing to have. >> at this stage you look at chr

eyebrows about why new jersey governor chris christie is campaigning so aggressively just days before a voet he's got locked up. christie's still on the move. nbc's kelly o'donnell is on the move as well, having interviewed christie on the road. she joins us in hamilton, new jersey. a good sunday to you. what is behind this tour? >> reporter: well, we've been traveling with the governor, talking to him along the way. he says the polls could do him a disservice because voters actually have to get there on election day and cast ballots. so he says he is trying to grind it out, push from town to town to connect with voters, to make sure they actually turn out. there's also the issue of how big of a margin might he have if he is, in fact, going to win, how big a win. and i talked to him about that last night. >> i'm not planning for it. i just think it's inevitable. you know, i think people look at elections and try to discern things from them about what they mean at that moment and what they mean for the future. i think that what people are going to see is so unusual for what our party h
of chris christie could affect the hillary clinton campaign? >> the 2000 campaign was a very effective one. i was an intern on that campaign and did a heck of a job fetching coffee and answering phones. but in all seriousness, it's a great comparison from that race to this one. she didn't go in there thinking she was a given to win the senate seat. she went in as a total novice, introduced herself to voters, got her hands dirty. something that she was accused of not doing in 2008. the reason it's really important for the clinton campaign to take that approach this time around is because you look at shaquille o'neal who hardly ever weighs into politics but he did endorsing chris christie, a republican. an overwhelming majority of black voters supported barack obama. but in my 2008 "party crashing," plugging that, 35% of black voters ages 18 to 24 actually identify as independent, thomas. so while they are obama loyalists, many of them, they're not necessarily kem contract party loyalists and president obama slipped in the double digits between 2008 and 2012 among black men in part because o
you make of the chris christie stuff in the book? basically he looks like mitt romney considered him and then didn't and considered him again and eventually trying to make out that somehow they were concerned about his background and so on, something chris christie denies. would it made any difference to mitt romney if his running mate was chris christi? >> i don't think so. the reason he lost is there was this surprise enormous vote from elderly black women. they want to keep obama in the white house, first african american president. so they won't change their vote. they are still coming out. the other was a deficit of working class white males in the upper midwest, the places hit but the auto bailout. i don't think it makes a difference christie is on the bailout. i think they are both great reporters -- >> the game change was not really contested. they obviously got good sources. >> which reminds me of another reason i don't think they were considering hillary clinton. among the things bill clinton said about obama when hilary was running against them was teddy kennedy, about bar

in the excerpts we've gotten was the chris christie camp and mitt romney camp do not like each other. the campaign concluding that romney's camp were a gaggle of clowns that couldn't complete a circ circus. and i think the conclusion rather than necessarily the substance of those things is they really didn't like each other. and all the stuff in the conservative media particularly toward the end of the campaign of chris christie cost mitt romney an election, that went deeper than bloggers. the people in the romney camp. >> no, totally, you talk to a romney adviser still off the record they will 100% cite chris christie as one of the main reasons they lost 2012. and that totally comes through this book, at least the excerpts i've seen. the other thing you have to remember is we see a lot about the clinton, you know, clinton coming on possibly replacing biden. all of that is also being colored by how these democrats are positioning themselves for 2016. >> explain that more. that's an important point. that's true because there are a lot of machinations happening in the world of democratic politics th
